Joseph Robert Micheletti, commonly referred to by his professional name Joe Micheletti, is an American ice hockey analyst and reporter. A former NHL and WHA defenseman himself, Joe participated in 142 World Hockey Association (WHA) games for Calgary Cowboys and Edmonton Oilers respectively as well as 158 National Hockey League (NHL) contests with St Louis Blues and Colorado Rockies respectively before transitioning into broadcasting full time and expanding his net worth substantially through broadcasting coverage. Though his schedule is full of professional commitments, the former defenseman has managed to keep his personal life confidential. Micheletti graduated from the University of Minnesota where he played on both their 1974 and 1976 NCAA national championship teams, setting numerous team records during his time there and being honored as an All-American by NCAA. Micheletti later went on to play six seasons in the NHL with Edmonton Oilers, St Louis Blues, Colorado Rockies – winning their Stanley Cup championship in 1980.
Micheletti began his broadcasting career after his playing days ended in 1985 on KMOX-AM as part of the Blues radio team. Since then he has worked for both Minnesota North Stars and Blues radio teams, hosting local NHL television and radio broadcasts with Dan Kelly, Dave Hodge, Ken Wilson, John Shannon, Jim Davidson and Howie Rose; plus national NHL coverage by ABC, ESPN and Fox.
Micheletti has also published several books about hockey. Along with being a successful broadcaster, he has also been active in charitable work with a wide array of organizations; his foundation, Joe Micheletti Family Foundation is dedicated to supporting children and families in need.
The foundation has raised millions for various charitable causes and helped many families in need. For this work, it received the Community Impact Award from the City of Minneapolis.
