Hughley derives most of his income from hosting various comedy programs as well as writing scripts for television.
Beginning his career on BET’s Comic View as a stand-up comedian in 1992, Hughley quickly found success. Subsequently he appeared in multiple TV series such as Sister, Sister and Double Rush as well as movies such as The Brothers, Chasing Papi and Cat Run – as well as hosting his show The Hughleys which ran until 2002.

Personal life: He has been married to LaDonna Hughley since 1986 and has three children, Ryan, Tyler and Kyle. He has spoken openly about their relationship as well as Ryan’s struggle with Asperger syndrome – an autistic spectrum condition which affects social interaction – both issues which he has spoken openly about with LaDonna Hughley and Corey Hughley himself.
Hughley was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on March 6, 1963 to Audrey and Charles Hughley who both worked at Delta Air Lines; after moving with their family to South Central Los Angeles when Hughley became a teenager. Hughley became part of The Bloods street gang during this time, leaving after his cousin was murdered by another member. Hughley has shared his experiences with drug addiction as well as his youthful mischief on several talk shows. He is an avid music listener who specializes in listening to old soul. Hughley also supports basketball teams such as the Los Angeles Clippers. DL Hughley donates money annually to The Boys & Girls Club of America; in turn this helps provide services for young people.
