Cary Katz is an esteemed businessman and high-stakes poker tournament player. He has reached several final tables at major competitions worldwide and boasts a sizeable bankroll; additionally he is well known for his contributions towards expanding the poker community.
Katz was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia before going on to earn a business administration degree from the University of Georgia in 1999. Once graduated he founded College Loan Corporation which went on to become one of the biggest student loan issuers in the US with loans totaling over $19 billion being issued through it.
Katz has found great success as both a high-stakes poker tournament player and businessperson. Over his career, he has won more than $1.5 million in prize money – winning numerous events such as 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and Jeju, South Korea high profile tournament. However, his greatest win to date came when he took out Super High Roller Bowl London winning for PS2,610,600 beating out an elite field featuring Stephen Chidwick, Sam Greenwood and Bryn Kenney to take out this title.
Katz has had much success at both high-stakes poker tournaments and at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). He has cashed several events at WSOP, twice finishing inside the money bubble at Big One for One Drop events; yet to earn himself his first gold bracelet at WSOP.
Katz has given to numerous charitable causes, particularly medical-based ones such as Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Shea Therapeutic Riding Center. Additionally, he has supported Republican politicians, contributing most generously this election cycle towards opposing Democratic incumbents.
Katz has also become involved with media through his media involvements: founding and part-owning CRTV; co-founding Poker Central website/PokerGO and American Televised High Roller Series “Poker Masters/US Poker Open.”
Katz and Jackie have been happily married for more than two decades in Las Vegas, Nevada. He prefers keeping his personal life private. In his free time he enjoys golfing and traveling as well as playing chess or attending movies or Broadway shows in his leisure time. In terms of hobbies, he’s known for loving sports cars and art collections – including those belonging to Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali; additionally his musical tastes span a broad spectrum, featuring Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley songs as among others; often singing them at special occasions!
