Born in Miami Beach, Florida to a Presbyterian minister father, Spurrier moved frequently during his early childhood years. Most of this time was spent living between Charlotte, North Carolina and Johnson City Tennessee before attending Duke University to earn both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in economics in 1994.
From 1990 to 2001, he served as head coach of the University of Florida Gators, leading them to multiple SEC and bowl championships. Since his departure as head coach he has continued as an ambassador for Florida by making appearances on various sports shows on television.
Former NFL Coach Tony Dungy has since established himself as a successful winemaker, winning multiple awards including The Prix de Champagne Lanson for wine writing, as well as being awarded The Personalite de l’Annee by France’s wine industry. Additionally, Dungy founded Bride Valley Winery in Dorset England where his first vintage was produced in 2014.
